Zimbabwe Farmers Would Be Welcome In NZ
ACT Rural Spokesman, Owen Jennings today said Zimbabwe farmers, if they were forced to leave their country, would be welcome in New Zealand for the many skills they would bring.
“As President of Federated Farmers I spent time on many Zimbabwe farms on various visits and know the very high skill level and reputation for hard work these farmers have especially in the cropping area.
“They have developed excellent techniques, invested in R&D and training to establish themselves as the best farmers in Africa. They would add considerable value to the stock of skills and ideas we have in New Zealand.
“The farming families in Zimbabwe are also active and dedicated community participants and would be an assett to rural communities here.
“I have spoken to several contacts I have in Zimbabwe and there is growing interest in emigration despite their love of their country and the fact they would not be able to bring much equity out with them. Each day brings new fears and uncertainty as the terror of Mugabe and his supporters spreads across the country.
“The Government should be making it known that we will welcome Zimbabwe families here,” said Owen Jennings.
