Youth Parliament Selection 2000

Waimakariri Member of Parliament Clayton Cosgrove is pleased to announce entries are now open for the Waimakariri Youth Parliament Representative for 2000.

Mr Cosgrove invites all young people in the Waimakariri Electorate between 16 and 18 years to enter. The winner will get the chance to sit in the Youth Parliament in Wellington for two days in August.

The Waimakariri Youth MP will sit in the Youth Parliament, sit on Select Committees, ask questions of Ministers, debate in the House and answer questions put to them by the Youth Parliamentary Press Gallery.

Mr Cosgrove said “This is a great opportunity for future voters to see how their Parliament works. The Youth Parliament encourages good communication, sharing experiences and being aware of wider issues in the community in which they live.”

Students wishing to enter are requested to present a 200 word statement for judging.

The topic they are to address in their statement is:

“How do you plan to represent the young people of Waimakariri in the Youth Parliament? What issue would you address on their behalf?”

Entries can be presented in many ways, including, written, audio or video cassettes, speeches, written debates, and interviews.
