End The Sickening Racism And Hysteria
New Zealand First Law and Order spokesman, Ron Mark, has pleaded for an end to the hysteria and irrational decisions that have followed the Waitara shooting to allow a calm and objective investigation of the incident.
He said that the situation had been reached where the chance of justice being done, and seen to be done, had been jeopardised by the foolish comments of politicians and “irrational” decisions by judges.
“The judges who have allowed the public naming of the police officer involved in the Waitara shooting have made a totally absurd decision which will have far reaching consequences.
“These judges have given ALL police officers, carrying out their duties, a clear message that they can be found guilty of a crime before their actions are fully investigated.
“Even the worst offenders facing horrific crimes have their names suppressed until they are charged in court and this police officer has not even been charged!
“What possible advantage was there to be gained
by naming the police officer? He and his family have now
been sentenced,” said Mr Mark.
He also expressed dismay
at the hysteria and racial hatred whipped up by the media
and fueled by “stupid” politicians prepared to do anything
for a headline.
“New Zealanders are bewildered by the
political outbursts against the police. Politicians should
be displaying calm leadership, not fuelling the
controversy.
“This is New Zealand - not Zimbabwe,” Mr
Mark
said.
