Commission seeks written submissions

The Tertiary Education Advisory Commission, recently established to advise Hon Steve Maharey, Associate Minister of Education (Tertiary) on the future direction of the tertiary education sector, is seeking initial input from those with an interest in the sector.
“The Commission’s first task is develop a high level strategic vision for the sector, and a clear policy framework which will guide its work over the next two years”, said Dr Norman Kingsbury, Chair of the Commission.
“The Commission is keen to engage in dialogue with the participants and stakeholders in the tertiary education sector. The Commission would therefore like to invite organisations and individuals with an interest in the tertiary education sector to provide it with a written submission which addresses the issues set out in the Commission’s Terms of Reference, as well as any other issues of particular concern”, said Dr Kingsbury.
“The Commission has been set a tight timeframe by the Government, and we would therefore appreciate it if submissions could made to the Commission by 20 June 2000”, said Dr Kingsbury.
“The Commission is mindful of the short timeframe involved in this process, and would like to assure all those involved in the sector that this will be the beginning of what will be an ongoing dialogue with the sector as the Commission’s work progresses. The Commission’s initial focus is on the development of a clear vision and policy framework for the entire tertiary education sector, and it would assist the Commission if submissions addressed these broad issues”, added Dr Kingsbury.
