Labour’s Marian Hobbs will go down in history as being the only MP for Wellington Central who has failed the people of Wellington if she allows parts of the city’s Town Belt to be sold off, National MP Annabel Young said today.
Ms Young, who is responsible for the Wellington
Central electorate, is calling for a halt to the sale of
the land and is putting pressure on Marion Hobbs, who based
her election campaign on protecting the Town belt, to “stick
to her promises”.
“Marion Hobbs must live up to her
campaign promises,” said Ms Young.
“Wellington People
want action, not just words and campaign speeches,” she
said.
The town belt land is currently held by Capital Cost
Health. And according to action group Friends of the
Wellington Town Belt, the land has been declared surplus to
Capital Coast’s requirements making it available for
sale.
It is understood the health authority has
marketed the land for sale and entered into a conditional
sale and purchase agreement with a property developer.
Ms
Young said today the only accident of history was that part
of the Town Belt fell into the hands of the
hospital.
“Now we have Annette King , a Wellington-based
Labour Minister of Health, and Marian Hobbs, who based her
sole election campaign on protecting the Town Belt, just
sitting back letting this happen.
