Legislation will put women's lives on hold
Women will pay the price for the Government's under-estimation of the impact the new matrimonial property legislation on the Family Courts, says Opposition Women's Affairs spokesperson Anne Tolley.
"Domestic violence legislation has had a huge impact on the workload of our family courts. The proposed changes to matrimonial property law will only add to this.
"This Government is showing its complete disregard for the very people their policies affect by not learning from past experience.
"A flood of cases will be filed following this legislation, only to be caught in the logjam that already exists.
"The last thing women need is a protracted wait for a court hearing before she and her children can get on with their lives," Mrs Tolley said.
