Peters Scoffs At Speight Comparison

The Rt Hon Winston Peters MP, Leader of New Zealand First, today scoffed at suggestions that he bears any resemblance whatsoever to the Fijian gangster, George Speight.

“Unlike Mr Speight my entire political career has been about standing up for the democratic rights of the public.

“I was expelled from the National Party for fighting for the right of MPs to speak out on behalf of their constituencies, I went to the people in the Tauranga by-election after becoming an Independent MP, campaigned for MMP so that the public would have increased say and fought for referendums on a number of policies so that the public democratically could decide key issues – instead of just the politicians.

“And, unlike Mr Speight I have a full head of hair!” said Mr Peters.
