Industry New Zealand Bill Promotes New
Partnership: Cunliffe
“I am delighted that the amended Industry New Zealand bill points to a new partnership for delivering industry strategy”, MP for Titirangi David Cunliffe said today.
The Commerce Committee’s recommendations tabled today significantly update Industry New Zealand (INZ). The amendments:
Require a
majority of private sector Board representation in
INZ
Task INZ with developing sectoral and
regional growth strategies (in addition to implementing
assistance programmes)
Build in private and
community sector input into industry development
policy
“Nearly all submissions received by the Committee supported the INZ bill, but many were worried that it could become too ‘bureaucratic’. These amendments ensure INZ’s private sector focus and membership will be built in from the start.” Mr Cunliffe said.
“But the importance of this Bill goes beyond INZ itself. In it we see a new and better way of the Government doing business – partnering with the private and community sectors to get more done; quicker, better and at lower cost.” Mr Cunliffe said.
“Governments do not have all the answers – but we can and must offer real leadership to bring together a wide range of interests for the common good,” he said.
“The amended INZ Bill is a clear step in that direction. I am very grateful to the Minister of Economic Development for his support in this process,” Mr Cunliffe said today.
