Green Party at GE Royal Commission hearing
Green Party co-leader Jeanette Fitzsimons this morning presented the first part of a Green Party application to the Royal Commission on Genetic Engineering, at today's hearing at the Wellington District Court.
The application was for interested person status for the Green Party. Interested person status gives organisations and/or individuals the right to present their submission orally to the commission and the opportunity cross-examine other submitters.
To get interested person status, applicants have to show they "have an interest in the Inquiry apart from any interest in common with the public."
Ms Fitzsimons presented the application to the four commission members and the legal counsel for the commission.
The hearing continues tomorrow and decisions on applications of political parties will not be made until then.
The second part of the Green Party's application will be presented tomorrow morning.
Jeanette will be flying to Australia at 7.30am tomorrow so will not be available. A copy of the Green Party application follows.
