"Ordinary kiwi households will be missing out on money which is owed to them." says National Party Spokesperson on Revenue, Annabel Young MP.

70,000 fewer people have claimed tax rebates this year. These rebates can be claimed for donations to charities, housekeeping and childcare. By this time last year 329,424 people had claimed rebates. So far this year only 281,028 people have filed a claim. The IRD has sent out 680,806 claim forms.

"An added problem is that the IRD refuses to pay out the rebate unless they know your bank account number. That's ridiculous. What's wrong with putting a cheque in the mail?" Annabel Young said.
