What Is Mr Gosche Going To Do?

National Housing spokesman Tony Ryall today called on the Housing Minister to table Housing New Zealand's Statement of Corporate Intent so low-income New Zealanders know what the Government is going to do to address their housing needs for the next year.

"The Annual Report, tabled today, has the usual PR spin. But, when are we, and more importantly low-income families, going to be told how many new houses the Government is actually going to build?

"The Government has created high expectations with its income related rents policy for low income families. Reality will soon hit home to the 280,000 people on low incomes that are going to miss out because there aren't enough State houses.

"Not one extra State house has been built since Mr Gosche became Housing Minister.

"There are many low income families in areas of high demand, such as South Auckland, who will miss out under Mr Gosche's discriminatory income-related rents policy because there aren't enough State houses in their area," Mr Ryall said.
