"Ruth Dyson should be consistent in her whinging wowserish statements," National's Murray McCully said today.

Ms Dyson has today pilloried Norm Hewitt for playing with a broken arm, saying he is 'foolish and short sighted', 'daft' and is 'a poor role model for his young fans.'

"Colin Meads set the example by playing with a broken arm during the All Blacks tour to South Africa in 1970. Why not give him a severe tongue-lashing as well?

"As for Chris Cairns, who batted on with an injured knee to an unbeaten century in the final of the ICC KnockOut Tournament in Kenya - surely he should hand back his share of the winning team prize money!

"And don't forget other reckless kiwis like Ernest Rutherford (messed round with dangerous chemicals), and Richard Pearse (tried to defy the law of gravity). What abysmal role models Ms Dyson must think those two were.

"Then there's Sir Edmund Hillary, who put his life at risk climbing Mt Everest. How daft can you get?

"You can't help but conclude that if Ms Dyson had her way the rugged, 'boots and all' kiwi spirit would be dead and buried," Murray McCully said.
