Tuesday, 14 November 2000, 10:13 am
Press Release: ACT New Zealand
The ACT party welcomes the proposal by the Minister
of Justice to review sentences, said ACT Leader Hon Richard
Prebble.
“Judges should be able to take into
account aggravating factors when sentencing.
“ACT
points out that the real outrage in the justice system is
not the court sentences but the actions of politicians and
bureaucrats in releasing offenders early in parole.
“New
Zealand’s loose and under-resourced parole scheme doesn’t
work,” said Hon Richard Prebble.
