Presidency contest sign of vibrancy

"The contest for the National Party Presidency is a sign of National's vibrancy as a political party," National Leader Jenny Shipley said today.

Mrs Shipley was commenting on Michelle Boag's announcement she would seek the National Party Presidency next year.

"National is the country's largest political party and the Presidency position is a key role.

"It is the Party members who will decide who will lead them in the Presidency position.

"As a Party we are firmly focused on the 2002 election, and will fine-tune that focus in the next year."
