Town belt victory hailed

"Wellington is the real winner from the decision to stop the sale of town belt land," Wellington based National MP Annabel Young said today.

Ms Young, a long-time supporter of the preservation of the Town Belt, was commenting on an announcement by the Minister of Health that the sale of the Chest Hospital site will not go ahead.

"I make no apology for the pressure that I have put on the Minister over this issue. The canning of the sale means that one more piece of the Town Belt jigsaw will come back into place."

Annabel Young says she is promoting amendments to the health legislation which is currently before the House, to make the sale of reserve land more difficult and subject to agreement from the Minister of Conservation.
