Schools Waste Resources Checking On Parents

ACT Education Spokesman Donna Awatere Huata said today that the strain on resources at a Christchurch High School was further proof that the Government’s zoning policy does not work.

“Two administrative staff at Burnside High School have spent a considerable amount of time verifying that the addresses parents supply are correct,” Donna Awatere Huata said.

“They are doing this to ensure that parents are not trying to avoid zoning regulations.

“I cannot fathom how the Minister of Education can possibly justify this waste of resources.

“The fact that schools need to check addresses further demonstrates that parents want to choose where their children go to school.

“The Minister needs to face facts and concede that this system does not work.

“I call on the Minister to instigate an urgent review of the Government’s zoning policy.

“If this took place, I am certain that the policy would be scrapped and replaced with something far more practical,” Donna Awatere Huata said.
