Sweden Becomes Latest Working Holiday Partner With NZ
Sweden has become the
14th country New Zealand has signed a working holiday scheme
with, Foreign Minister Phil Goff and Immigration Minister
Lianne Dalziel announced today.
Mr Goff signed the reciprocal arrangement with Swedish Foreign Minister Anna Lindh in Stockholm this morning New Zealand time.
From 1 July this year an unlimited number of young New Zealanders will be able to have working holidays in Sweden while 300 young Swedes will have the opportunity of working holidays here.
"We've always seen eye to eye with Sweden on the international front, and we work closely on disarmament and environmental issues. The people to people links that the scheme promotes will enhance that very good relationship," said Mr Goff.
Immigration Minister Lianne Dalziel said that a large number or young Swedes were already travelling to New Zealand.
"The working holiday scheme would allow them to spend more time in New Zealand than previously – undertaking incidental employment and gaining a greater appreciation of New Zealand life," she said.
Working holiday schemes already exist with Britain, Ireland, the Netherlands, France, Canada, South Korea, Japan, Malaysia, Singapore, Germany, Italy, Hong Kong and Chile.
