Recreational Fishing Left Out Again

$50,000 To Environmental Groups But Recreational Fishing Left Out Again

The Rt Hon Winston Peters MP, Leader of New Zealand First, today said that while the Budget will provide $50,000 to help environmental groups recreational fishermen are dumbfounded that despite years of contributing to fishing issues their pleas for financial contribution are again being ignored.

“The only reason money is going to environmental groups is that this is a strategy put forward by the Greens. This meagre political payback for the Green’s political support is one thing but why has recreational fishing which has contributed to fisheries issues for decades been given no government assistance.

“Recreational fishermen have every right to feel outraged at the money going to the Greens whilst nothing is being granted to the New Zealand Recreational Fishing Council whose members gave two years of their personal time to the Soundings Project,” said Mr Peters.
