Literacy Problems With Secondary Teachers
The Minister of Education, Trevor Mallard, claimed in the House today that some secondary teachers have literacy problems. In response to a question by New Zealand First MP, Hon Brian Donnelly, asking why some principals and teachers were confused about details of the new NCEA qualification, Mr Mallard claimed that some teachers had literacy problems.
“This was an insensitive slur on the capacities of our nation’s school teachers,” said Mr Donnelly.
“If some teachers have literacy problems, the Minister should be doing something about it.”
