Greens disappointed by Britomart project delay

Greens disappointed by Britomart project delay

"It is very disappointing that Transfund is dragging the chain on giving money to the much-needed Britomart project," said Auckland Green MP and associate Transport spokesperson Keith Locke.

Mr Locke was responding to the news that Transfund had postponed its decision on the amount of founding it would contribute to Auckland's proposed multimillion dollar downtown transport centre.

"I hope Transfund isn't backtracking just because Infrastructure Auckland hasn't given as much money as Auckland City anticipated," he said.

Transfund Chief Executive Martin Gummer said today the board had decieded that further talks were needed about the project with local council leaders before any money was committed to the project.

"Transfund should be on the front foot, not the back foot to make sure this important project works. I only hope the delay is because Transfund is thinking about giving more money, rather than less, although I fear that is not the case.

"There is a desperate need to get started on Auckland's downtown transport centre, as a hub for the passenger rail network in Auckland and its connection to bus and ferry services," said Mr Locke.
