National welcomes aid for East Timor

Max Bradford National Foreign Affairs Spokesperson

National's Foreign Affairs spokesperson Max Bradford tonight welcomed the $10 million in aid for East Timor over the next four years.

"It's only a drop in the bucket of what is needed in the territory, but National believes it's certainly a step in the right direction.

"The New Zealand Government must now ensure that the money will be used for the intended projects which focus on basic education, social and natural resource development, and governance. It must not be drained off in other directions," Mr Bradford said.
