Greens stand by truck crash stats

Comments from Tony Friedlander of the Land Transport Forum that figures used by Green MP Sue Kedgley on truck crash statistics are 'totally wrong' are incorrect.

The figures from the Land Transport Safety Authority used by Ms Kedgley show in the 12 months to 31 January 2000 23 per cent of road deaths (111 people) were caused by crashes involving trucks. The statistics from the LTSA website are available on request.

In his statement titled 'Green Party spreads more misinformation' Tony Friedlander said the Greens were refering to figures to the year ended 31 January 2001. Ms Kedgley's statement clearly refers to the year ended 31 January 2000 - not 2001. These are the latest figures available to the Greens from the LTSA website.

"Mr Friedlander appears confused on this matter. It seems he has made a mistake in reading my press statement," said Ms Kedgley.
