Green Party Tries to Hijack Debate on Trucks

Press Releases -- Transport

Misinformation from the Green Party must not be allowed to kill debate on the Land Transport Safety Authority discussion document, ACT Transport Spokesman MP Penny Webster said today.

"The Green Party is trying to usurp the correct process, exactly as they did on GE. They shouldn't be trying to sway things at this stage with emotionally charged statements.

"We must give LTSA time to sort through and summarise the submissions.

"Both options for increasing the size of trucks are worth consideration. Trucks keep New Zealand's economy moving. Increasing their size slightly is a very valid suggestion.

"The rail network is not up to scratch, and cannot cope with the demands that the emotional Green Party would place on it.

"We should stick to the facts and disregard the Green Party's emotional spin and selective statistics," Penny Webster said.
