Deport Rioters Now: Peters
Tuesday, 2 October 2001, 10:10 am
Press Release: New Zealand First Party
New Zealand First leader Winston Peters has called on the
Immigration Minister to order the immediate deportation of
the ten Iraquis and Iranians involved in Sunday’s riot at
Whangaparaoa camp.
“It appears that there has been no
proper screening of these people and they should be sent
packing forthwith, Mr Peters said.
“While we are happy to
provide a haven for genuine refugees It has become obvious
that New Zealand has gained the unhappy reputation of being
the dumping ground for some of the undesirables of the
Middle East and Asia. We have enough of our own social
problems without importing any more.
“To make matters
worse the New Zealand taxpayer is paying not just for the
prosecution of these rioters but for their defence as well.
New Zealanders have no idea who this Government is welcoming
into our country or what these people are like” said Mr
Peters.
