One Tree Hill Decision “Embarrassment”

Maungakiekie MP Mark Gosche says he is saddened to hear that the Auckland City Council is so destitute that it cannot afford to replace the tree on One Tree Hill.

Mayor John Banks said this morning that the council would not be paying for a replacement.

“Aucklanders look upon One Tree Hill as an icon of our city. It has always been a vital part of the Auckland skyline and we were all looking forward to the tree being replaced,” said Mr Gosche.

One Tree Hill, or Maungakiekie, is in Mr Gosche’s electorate.

“As the local MP I am more than happy to send a cheque for $100 to Mayor John Banks to help the Auckland City Council out of its deep financial plight.”

“It’s an embarrassment to think the council is so cash strapped that it cannot afford to replace such a vital part of Auckland’s heritage.”
