Board For New Howick South Secondary School
Board For New Howick South Secondary School Appointed
Five Howick residents have been appointed to
the establishment board of trustees for the new secondary
school at Kilkenny Drive, Howick.
The board members are
- Tony Dickason
- Don Ingham
- Ian Marshall
-
Tricia Payne
- Marion Skelton
Nominations for the board were sought from local schools, Howick residents, community groups, Manukau City Council and local MPs.
“The members of the board were chosen because of the skills and backgrounds that each is expected to bring to the establishment of the school. I am pleased that the board reflects the local community.
The establishment board appoints the principal and other staff, as well as determining policy for the school and putting in place sound governance practices.
The board will be in place until an elected board can take office. School elections are likely to be held in mid-2004.
The school is being established to cater for secondary-age children in the new Howick South housing developments and to take pressure off other local secondary schools. It will open progressively with one level at a time, starting with Form 3 (Year 9).
Initially the new school will have classrooms to accommodate about 600 students, but more classrooms will be added as roll numbers increase.
