Copyright Tribunal Appointments

December 4 2001

Associate Commerce Minister Laila Harré has announced the latest round of appointments to the Copyright Tribunal.

Hannah Sargisson has been appointed chairperson for five years. Christopher Else has been appointed a member for five years. Professor David Charles Gunby has been reappointed as a member for a two-year term.

All appointments were effective from November 19.

Laila Harré says each of the three appointees has a broad range of experience that will be of great value to the tribunal.

Ms Sargisson is a barrister and solicitor with experience in governance and tribunal processes. She is the vice president of the New Zealand Law Society and the former chair of the Equal Opportunities Trust. Ms Sargisson is also a member of the New Zealand Law Society and Auckland District Law Society Resource Management Committees, the New Zealand Planning Institute and the Resource Management Law Association.

Mr Else brings authorial and copyright licensing experience to the tribunal. He is a former president and vice president of the New Zealand Society of Authors (PEN) Inc and has served as director on the Board of Copyright Licensing Ltd. He is familiar with the application of copyright and intellectual property law in contracts, a key focus of the tribunal.

Professor Gunby is an English Professor at Canterbury University. He is currently a member of the Copyright Tribunal and has much experience of its workings.
