Kedgley to clarify confusion in 'Clayton's' GE labelling

Green MP Sue Kedgley will host a tour of a major Wellington supermarket this Friday 7 to help consumers understand the new labelling regime for genetically engineered foods which comes into force on Friday.

Ms Kedgley and the GE-free icon 'Captain Sensible' will take interested media around the Wellington City New World Supermarket in Wakefield Street at 1pm to show what foods will now be labelled and what foods will not.

"Consumers have been calling for a labelling regime for years so that they know whether or not they are eating genetically engineered foods. Sadly the regime introduced today will provide consumers with confusion rather than certainty," she said.

"Consumers wishing to avoid genetically engineered foods will have to understand this regime and its many loopholes and this is what I will be pointing out on Friday."

Sue has also written a feature article pointing out the loopholes in this regime. For a copy contact Jonathan.
