Bridget Nichols Memorial Trust

Foreign Minister Phil Goff announced today that the Ministry of Foreign Affairs and Trade will be making a contribution of $20,000 to the Bridget Nichols Trust Fund.

The fund has been established by the Wellington District Law Society in honour of New Zealand’s former Deputy High Commissioner to the Solomon Islands.

“I congratulate the Law Society in taking this initiative to honour an exceptional New Zealander who was a first class lawyer and a fine representative of our country who dedicated her career to the public good.

“It is fitting indeed that the ideals Bridget held strongly should be kept firmly alive and given expression through a Trust Fund bearing her name designed to assist other New Zealanders who are prepared to work with people in need in developing countries.

“There is a long tradition of new Zealanders working overseas in a volunteer capacity and this remains one of the very important contributions that we can make to support the development of civil society in our region,” Mr Goff said.
