Minister Accepts Resignation From Teachers’ Council Chair

Education Minister Trevor Mallard said today that he has accepted the offer of resignation from the chairperson of the Teachers’ Council Kathie Irwin.

The State Services Commission is currently investigating allegations made against Ms Irwin relating to her previous employment at Victoria University.

Trevor Mallard said Ms Irwin had told him that she did not want the allegations made against her personally to impact negatively on the work of the Council.

“After much thought, I am of the view that, regardless of the outcome of the investigation, the matter would impact on the running and the perception of the Teachers’ Council,” Trevor Mallard said.

The Minister said the investigation would continue only at the expressed wish of Ms Irwin.

Graeme McCaan will continue to act as Chairperson.
