Actions Of Hastings District Council And
Hutt City Council Applauded
The Hastings District
Council and the Hutt City Council are to be congratulated
for initiating proposals to impose liquor bans in the town
centre of Havelock North and Hutt City”, says New Zealand
First Leader and MP for Tauranga, Rt Hon Winston
Peters.
“I am pleased to see Councils prepared to face up to the hard questions in society and to place the concerns of rate payers and the community before the so called rights of those who wish to do whatever they wish, in spite of the unrest and damage they cause.
“I applaud the actions of the Hastings and Hutt City Councils and urge other Councils who are grappling with similar problems, to consider utilising the liquor banning laws which were, after all, introduced to provide protection and safety for the majority of those of us who seek a decent lifestyle free from the dangers of drunks, layabouts and criminality so frequently spurred on by liquor consumption”.
“I am pleased to see Councils taking this initiative and am proud to have facilitated the ability as a consequence of Parliament passing my Prohibition of Liquor in Public Places Bill back in December 2001”, concluded Mr Peters.
