Samoan community to get a say on overseas aid to Samoa

Overseas Development Minister Matt Robson will hold a public meeting for members of the Auckland Samoan Community to discuss New Zealand’s official development assistance to Samoa.

When: 7.00pm, Thursday 30 May 2002

Where: Otahuhu Town Hall,
High Street,
Otahuhu,
Auckland

The meeting is to enable Samoan people resident in New Zealand who have strong links with their ancestral homeland to contribute to discussion on New Zealand’s aid to Samoa. In the current year, New Zealand provided $7.7 million in bilateral development assistance to Samoa. Samoa also benefits from New Zealand’s multilateral, regional and non-government organisation (NGO) funding to the Pacific.

Also present at the meeting will be Ms Rachel Fry, Deputy Director of the Co-operation Division of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, and Ms Joanna Harrington, the Samoa Programme Manager of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs.

Matt Robson recently held a similar meeting with the Auckland Tongan Community.
