AWAPUNI LANDFILL SITE:
MANY QUESTIONS, FEW ANSWERS


New Zealand First’s Agricultural Spokesperson, Doug Woolerton, is asking why there is continued controversy over the Awapuni landfill site in Palmerston North.

“Surely the claims that the disposal of gas works material at the Awapuni landfill site present a health hazard can be easily dealt with? How difficult is it for elementary core samples to be taken from the site? If toxic creosote or coal tar is in there and leeching into waterways wouldn’t a responsible council want to do everything it could to remedy the situation? If there is no danger aren’t our citizens entitled to have this assurance?” asked Mr Woolerton.
