Carter should check his facts

“National should check its facts before going public with silly allegations,” Finance Minister Michael Cullen said today.

Dr Cullen was responding to a claim from David Carter, the National finance spokesperson pro tem, that the government had been unable to agree on who should sit on the Board of Guardians responsible for administering the New Zealand Superannuation Fund.

“In fact, the proposed list went to the cabinet appointments and honours committee today and will go to the full cabinet on Monday week,” he said.

The cabinet will not meet this Monday because it is Queen’s Birthday Weekend.

“Once the nominations have been approved by the cabinet, the government will consult the other political parties represented in the House. The legislation requires that they be consulted but does not give them power of veto,” Dr Cullen said.
