“No Jury In The Country Would Find Constable A Guilty”
“The decision to send Constable A to trial for murder is an outrage and will seriously impact upon the level of safely and security we all currently feel in New Zealand”, said New Zealand First Leader and MP for Tauranga Rt Hon Winston Peters.
“I can not help but compare how we treat our country’s police, carrying out their duty on our behalf, with the support police receive from their authorities in other Western Democracies” Mr Peters said.
“This is a very sad day for the Police and especially so for Constable A and his family. I feel very sorry for the needless stress they are to face and I simply cannot believe there could be a jury put together anywhere in New Zealand who would find this policeman guilty of murder.
I will be watching with great interest as to which side of the fence the Attorney General Margaret Wilson and Minister of Justice Phil Goff will sit on regarding this matter, as I have no doubt they will be inundated with a crescendo of outrage from the community, “ Mr Peters concluded
