Minister’s response to PPTA claim

Education Minister Trevor Mallard confirmed that the PPTA has now tabled a new claim for the secondary teacher collective agreement with the government negotiators.

“This follows two previous settlements with the PPTA executive.

“I was somewhat surprised that, after the two settlements, the new claim is higher than the previous claim,” Trevor Mallard said.

“The Ministry of Education is available for negotiations and prepared to negotiate in good faith. That has been going on this afternoon and will continue over the weekend.

“What I have said publicly before and will say again is that I am willing to ask Cabinet for a bit more money to settle this collective agreement. It would be unwise of me, however, to pretend that there is a lot more money available,” Trevor Mallard said.
