Lack of leadership fuels teachers' dispute

The vacuum of leadership around the secondary teachers' pay dispute is continuing to leave schools in chaos, says National's Education spokesperson Nick Smith.

The PPTA has this afternoon reported that its members are evenly split so far on a short-term pay proposal put to them by their national executive.

"The Government and the PPTA are equally guilty for continuing to drag this problem out, says Dr Smith.

"Secondary schools have put up with nine months of chaos, and neither the Government nor the PPTA seem to have the wherewithal to resolve it."
