National will dismantle economic development

25 June 2002 Media Statement

National will dismantle economic development

National can’t be trusted to take responsibility for New Zealand’s economic development.

“In their nine years in office they ran down our regions and our industries. Under their watch they ran down the public service capability so that when this Coalition Government was elected there was little or no public expertise in these important economic development policy areas.

“This Coalition Government has worked hard to build up capabilities and get the regions moving again.

“Every region of New Zealand is now growing, most at over four per cent,” said Jim Anderton.

The National Party policy on economic development has little credibility,” says Economic, Industry and Regional Development Minister Jim Anderton.

“Every piece of legislation on economic, industry and regional development was opposed by National.

“National has done for regional development what text messaging has done for the English language,” said Jim Anderton.

Jim Anderton will be announcing policy for the Progressive Coalition on industry and regional development in July.
