Government Kicking For Touch On Painted Apple Moth

Green Biosecurity Spokesperson Ian Ewen-Street today said he was disappointed Government appeared to be kicking for touch on how to proceed with eradication of the painted apple moth.

"Today's announcement from Cabinet that they are going to keep spraying an extended area while they basically 'keep an eye on things' is ignoring the very real concerns of people in the area who are sick of being sprayed.

"Residents will be disappointed that Cabinet appear to have rejected the option put forward by the Community Advisory Group which aimed to continue eradication but using ground-based spraying where possible," he said.

"The Greens urge Cabinet not to give up on the painted apple moth but to go about eradication in a fashion that addresses the mounting health concerns of residents in the area."
