Mallard Caught In Union Vice

Mallard Caught In Union Vice

“The Minister of Education, Trevor Mallard, has been caught between a PPTA rock and an NZEI hardplace with the recommendations of the independent arbitration panel on the secondary pay claim,” says NZ First MP, Brian Donnelly.

“There is simply no way that the NZEI will take what is effectively the demolition of pay parity lying down”.

“A third compulsory sector contract, the area school contract, has not yet even come to negotiation. Once it does, gains in the secondary contract will have to be included. Those improvements will have to apply to those teaching secondary as well as primary classes in those schools”.

“The anomalies in the system which was the driver behind the pay parity crusade will be recreated and the cycle will begin again.”

“All in all, these conditions presage a stormy time ahead for education,” said Mr Donnelly.
