NZ First Mp Lays Complaint Againt Tanczos

New Zealand First youth affairs spokesperson Craig McNair today lodged an official complaint to the police in Wellington against Nandor Tanczos over the illegal use of cannabis.

He said it was time Mr Tanczos was held to account for his self-confessed cannabis use and he had asked police to investigate.

“The reality of the situation is that a member of Parliament has openly said he used drugs and broke the law.”

Mr McNair said that Mr Tanczos admitted in a newspaper interview in April 2000 that he used the drug. In June 2000 Mr Tanczos was quoted as saying he used it in small amounts “maybe once a month”.

Last weekend he indicated that he was still using the drug as a recognised part of the Rasta religion.

“It appears that Mr Tanczos has broken the law many times and is continuing to do so. Claiming that cannabis use is part of a religion surely does not exempt him from prosecution.

“This man is sending an unacceptable message to the youth of this country. Parents have told me of their deep concern at the example he is setting as a Member of Parliament and as youth affairs spokesperson for his party.

“Enough is enough. It is time to let Mr Tanczos know that he cannot continue to break the law with impunity,” said Mr McNair.
