Government Must Create Conditions for IT
Government Must Create Investment Conditions for
Information Technology
More than a special deal from Economic Development Minister Jim Anderton is needed if New Zealand is to attract innovators like Larry Ellison to invest in New Zealand, ACT Information Technology Spokesman Deborah Coddington said today.
"Reports that Oracle software billionaire Larry Ellison wants to purchase land in New Zealand to establish a research centre are a reminder that we need to reward innovation if we are to attain a reputable status among technology world leaders.
"We should embrace innovation by rewarding success and encouraging people like Larry Ellison to invest here. Lower and flatter taxes would encourage more innovators to invest in New Zealand.
"Foreigners
who express a love for New Zealand and a genuine desire to
share their wealth with this country should not be given the
lukewarm reception the Labour Government recently gave a
wealthy American who tried to buy private land in
Gisborne.
