Ogilvy welcomes NCEA inquiry

United Future education spokesman, Bernie Ogilvy, has welcomed the announcement by Parliament’s education and science select committee that it will conduct an inquiry into the implementation of Level 1 of the NCEA in 2002.

“For some time, many parents, teachers and students have expressed serious misgivings about the NCEA,” said Mr Ogilvy, “and if the implementation of Level 2 is to have any chance of success, we need to identify what has caused these misgivings with Level 1 this year,” he said.

The select committee inquiry will be held at Parliament on November 4, and will report back by November 15, 2002.

“I hope Parliament will seize this opportunity to get to the bottom of the problems surrounding NCEA, so as to ensure our secondary school students are not treated like guinea pigs, year after year,” he said.
