This is the Department’s first plan designed specifically for Pacific peoples and aims to reduce re-offending.

The Minister will also launch one of the strategy’s key initiatives, Fautua Pasifika. Under this programme Pacific community leaders will have greater access to prisons, to provide support to Pacific inmates.

When: Friday October 25, 11 am – 12.00 (followed by lunch) Where: Nga Tapuvae Hall, 253 Buckland Road, Mangere, Auckland

Format:

Speeches by a Department of Corrections representative and Mark Gosche will be followed by the Minister presenting identification cards to Pacific community leaders nominated by their communities to be part of the Fautua Pasifika programme.

After responses from the Fautua Pasifika and the Pacific community, Judge A’e’au Semi Epati will speak. Earlier this year Judge Epati became the first Pacific person to be appointed to the District Court Bench.
