Cullen’s compact musings

The Finance Minister’s musings with the unions today about the formation of a “compact” begs the question - what sort of compact would that be when unions represent only 20 per cent of the workforce? asks National’s Finance spokesman Don Brash.

“This is yet another example of Government cronyism, so blatantly revealed in the recent Ross Armstrong affair.

“Dr Cullen should stop wasting time on such efforts. There is already widespread consensus that in New Zealand, we need to make the boat go faster. This has been reinforced by today’s increase in the unemployment rate.

“In this respect, it is disappointing to see Dr Cullen also closing the book on tax cuts. Tax reduction must be an important part of a comprehensive plan to lift the performance of the New Zealand economy,” says Dr Brash.
