Cabin Crew Action a Sign of Things to Come

The threatened strike action by Air New Zealand cabin staff for health and safety reasons is a sign of what is to come under the new OSH legislation, says National's Industrial Relations spokesperson Roger Sowry.

"With the introduction of stress into the legislation, the scope for trade unions to issue strike notices is huge," said Mr Sowry. "Anyone who believes this won't be used as an industrial weapon is a little naïve.

In the middle of pay negotiations, we are going to see an increased number of hazard notices issued. "If this legislation passes, hundreds of New Zealand businesses will be crippled every year," says Roger Sowry.
