Dunne: Travelling public tired of games
United Future New Zealand leader and Ohariu-Belmont MP, Peter Dunne, says Wellington commuters are getting fed up with the games being played over the future of Wellington’s rail services.
“If Tranzrail, as reported, is laying down preconditions before talks about a possible sale can even begin, then they should realise that the public views the future of the Capital’s commuter services as a priority and they want to know what’s going on.
“If, on the other hand, Tranzrail is beginning to think it will retain and run the commuter services, then the public deserves to know what the company’s plans are to upgrade and modernise this vital service.
“These talks about a possible sale began three months ago and now seem to have come to a grinding halt. Meanwhile, the people of Wellington continue to travel in old rail stock with no clear idea of when or how or by whom the service is to be developed,” says Mr Dunne.
