“No Qantas” call grows wings

More than 5,500 people have now visited the http://www.noqantas.co.nz <http://www.noqantas.co.nz> web site set up by the National Party to oppose the proposed partial sale of Air New Zealand to Qantas.

“Many of them are choosing to take a stand, in less than 48 hours we’ve had close to five hundred people lend their names to our petition,” says National Transport spokesman Roger Sowry.

“By registering with the web-site, the public automatically fire off letters to seven Government Ministers,” says Mr Sowry.

“This response comes on top of a television poll that’s found nearly 60% of Kiwis are opposed to any sale to Qantas,” says Mr Sowry.

“I think that’s a pretty good indication of how strongly the public feel about this sale, which Parliament won’t get the chance to debate.

“Also telling over the past couple of days is the huge number of interest groups that have spoken out - most now agree the deal’s anti-competitive.

“If Helen Clark’s serious about doing what’s best for New Zealand’s interests, then it’s high time she started listening to those she’s supposed to represent,” says Mr Sowry.
