Greens celebrate Values' anniversary

The Greens honour their political heritage tonight with a dinner to celebrate two significant milestones in the movement's history.

The Green MPs have invited former Values Party members to join them for a dinner in the Green caucus room, 14th Floor Bowen House, starting at 6pm, to acknowledge the link between Values and the Greens.

It's the 30th anniversary of the first election that the Values Party contested (25th November, 1972) and the third anniversary of 'Green Day,' when seven Green MPs were elected to Parliament (December 7th, 1999.)

"Values is where we began," said Green Co-leader Rod Donald. "The fact that we have nine MPs today is testament to the vision, idealism and determination of the people who founded Values 30 years ago."

Green MP Mike Ward was a co-leader of Values and the Green Co-leaders, Jeanette Fitzsimons and Rod Donald, were both members.
