United Future MP's turn out for truck safety

Several United Future MP's will jump aboard some big trucks this Saturday (Eds: Dec 7) as part of Road Transport Forum NZ's Truck Safety Awareness Drive.

In the eastern Bay of Plenty, Judy Turner will meet Garry Locke at Waiotahi Contractors Depot, Valley Road, Whakatane at 10.00am. .

In Wellington, Öhariu-Belmont MP Peter Dunne is being picked up from Johnsonville Community Centre at 10.15am in a 44-tonne Phillips & O'Brien truck. He will be driven around and end up at Centre Port at 11am for a photo opportunity with other MPs.

Gordon Copeland will be picked up in Miramar in an Evans Bay Transport truck and drive to Centre Port to meet up with the other MP's for the photo op at 11:00am.

In Tauranga, Larry Baldock will spend time with Cochrane Transport between 10am - noon.

In Auckland, Paul Adams is being picked up from his home at 11am and will meet the truckies at noon at 323 Church Street, Penrose, which is the National Road Carriers depot. He is being driven around by Stokes Logging.

In the Hutt Valley, Murray Smith, accompanied by his daughter, Naomi, who will be celebrating her 11th birthday, will be at the Mainfreight depot in Seaview for a drive to Centre Port between 11am and noon.

In Christchurch, Marc Alexander will be picked up from the corner of Strowan & Elmwood Roads by Brent Leversedge from Mainfreight at 10.30am. There is a photo shoot at MG Transport, 68 Waterloo Road, Hornby, Christchurch at 11.00am.

The rides are part of a national campaign this weekend to make motorists aware of the danger on the roads as holidaymakers mix with truck drivers on the road over the high-risk Christmas-New Year period.
